Machinist / Workshop Assistant

Part-time | From £13 per hour | Approx. 20 hours per week

About the Role

CDL Group Ltd is seeking a part-time Machinist to join our metallurgical laboratory. This role is key to supporting our Workshop Assistants and Lab Technicians while ensuring high standards of quality control. The ideal candidate will have experience with manual and CNC milling machines, be quick to learn new skills, and enjoy working collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare test samples for laboratory testing in line with protocols and safety standards.

  • Receive, label, and separate test pieces through the goods-in system to ensure impartiality and accurate reporting.

  • Carry out quality control checks on samples and equipment to meet industry standards.

  • Assist with preparing laboratory materials and reagents.

  • Work closely with the team to meet customer deadlines and contribute ideas for process improvements.

  • Maintain a clean, organised workshop and laboratory, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Workshop or metallurgical laboratory experience preferred but not essential.

  • Experience using manual and CNC milling machines, industrial saws, grinders, etc.

  • Understanding of quality control processes within a laboratory environment (desirable).

  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is an advantage.

  • Strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, and a collaborative mindset.

  • Passion for precision and maintaining high accuracy standards.
