The ABER Finance team is looking to grow with the addition of a Finance Leader. Based in Aberystwyth, we are an employee owned company with over 35 years’ experience making monitoring instrumentation for the brewing and biotech markets. Main Purpose

The Finance Leader is responsible for leading and developing the finance team. Guiding our core financial operations, you will be part of ABER’s senior leadership and work closely with the boards and department leads.

You will oversee the regular reporting processes and build robust budgets and forecasts. The Finance Leader will bridge the gap between accounting data and real world insights that drive strategic decision making within our employee owned business. This role will be office based in Aberystwyth.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand employee ownership and ABER’s purpose and vision. Apply this to all our financial activities and communications.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop the Finance Team to support team growth and fulfilment.

  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to ABER’s Leaders, supporting them in managing their budgets and understanding real world financial impacts of their decisions.

  • Translate complex financial data into clear, digestible insights for non-finance people.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement across ABER.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and automate financial reporting and data collection processes throughout ABER.

  • Lead the finance team to ensure a timely, accurate, and smooth month-end close process.

  • Manage external audit accountants.

  • Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes across departments and subsidiary businesses.

  • Prepare and consolidate monthly management accounts and internal financial reporting for the leadership team, including actionable commentary explaining the key drivers.

  • Develop and maintain complex financial models to support strategic initiatives such as financial planning for projects and ROI analysis.

  • Create business cases for new hires, investments, and resource allocation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Qualified Management Accountant (CIMA, ACA or ACCA)

  • Experience within similar roles in a variety of sectors, and ideally involving employee ownership

  • Proficient in Information Technology, particularly in understanding different software types and how they link to one another, including accounting software, ERP, CRM databases, Power BI and other products

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

  • Experience of leading people and teams, with the desire to enable individuals’ growth

  • Commercially minded problem solver who is adaptable and open to change 

  • Diligent and methodical with excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage different priorities

  • Commitment to personal professional development in line with ABER’s growth

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree (Finance, Accounting, Economics)  

  • A sound understanding of employee ownership

  • Experience within the Manufacturing or Engineering sectors
