PROJECT MANAGER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (Design)

Are you an innovative Project Manager with a passion for product design and development in a regulated environment? Do you enjoy leading projects from concept through to market launch? We’re looking for a talented R&D Project Manager to join our growing team and play a key role in developing next-generation products for global markets.

Job Purpose & Objectives:

Project Leadership & Management

  • Plan, lead, and deliver R&D projects using structured project management tools.

  • Define project scope, team objectives, and timelines.

  • Maintain project communication, reporting progress to senior stakeholders.

  • Conduct project close-outs, including lessons learned reviews.

Product Design & Development

  • Lead product design activities using 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Solid Edge, etc.).

  • Oversee prototyping via 3D printing and rapid prototyping techniques.

  • Develop product specifications and concepts in collaboration with R&D and Product Managers.

  • Support design for injection moulded products, IVD and non-IVD products.

Testing, Validation & Compliance

·        Develop and support V&V (Verification & Validation) plans.

·        Assist in executing V&V studies for new and modified products.

·        Ensure design processes meet ISO13485:2016 and other regulatory standards.

·        Implement Toll Gate design processes for development lifecycle control.

Cross-Functional & Customer Support

·        Collaborate with Operations Team on design changes, cost reduction, and process improvement.

·        Assist in quality and regulatory activities, including technical file updates and international product registrations.

·        Provide product application support to UK and international customers.

·        Support commercial training pre-product launch.

Continuous Improvement & Risk Management

·        Engage in product and process improvement initiatives.

·        Participate in risk assessments (e.g. FMEA) to pre-empt potential failures.

·        Support root cause analysis and resolution of customer complaints.

Engineering & Supplier Engagement

·        Work with suppliers on process design improvements.

·        Ensure required process validations are completed per standards and internal procedures.

·        Contribute to cost-effective and efficient manufacturing strategies.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Preferably bachelor’s degree of further qualification in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Experience in managing new product development and/or sustaining quality projects.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage complex projects and work with cross functional teams.

  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements (to include but not exclusively COSHH, Manual Handling & Working Environment).

Preferable (But not essential)

  • 3-5 years of research and design experience in an engineering, medical device or pharmaceutical environment.

  • Knowledge of Toll Gate design control in highly regulated development and manufacturing environments.

  • Knowledge of ISO13485:2016, Medical Device regulations, guidance documents.

  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and risk management

  • Knowledge of LEAN techniques.

  • Knowledge of Quality Tools and Techniques including Pareto, control charts etc.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Effective project management skills to enable prioritisation of tasks and on time completion of project

  • Experience of working effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to motivate yourself and others.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office packages: Word, Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

  • Experience in reporting and presenting information across all levels of management.
