SENIOR PROGRAMMING ENGINEER, RM GROUP, NEWTOWN

RMGroup UK are one of the leading turnkey robotics and automation integrators within the UK, specialising in process and packaging end of line systems. Operating within the UK and overseas, the company designs, manufactures, commissions, and supports equipment within a host of industries, working predominantly with ABB Robotics as a Value-Added Partner.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our existing programming team, working in a growing business within a cutting-edge sector. The successful candidate will fundamentally be required to produce PLC and robot programs & HMI systems, with a key focus on projects from a programming and technical perspective, working to maximise the success of the installation and commissioning teams.

Skills / Experience:

  • Candidates must have the ability to write and maintain programmes including PLC/HMI & Robot programming.

  • Experience of robot installation and commissioning essential. Proficiency with ABB IRC5 programming desirable, or other leading robotics brands.

  • Ability to write and maintain PLC programmes – Predominantly Siemens S7-1200 PLC – other PLC experience also highly desirable (Allen Bradley).

  • Provide a high level of skill in interpreting the customer’s and regulatory requirements to ensure software designs are perfectly aligned to the customer’s expectation/user requirements.

  • Being constantly commercially aware to maximise value to our customers and maintain a loyal customer base.

  • Perform the role of technical support in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering and Commissioning teams during internal and external review meetings and during the testing and commissioning phases of a project.

  • Work with all colleagues to ensure projects are delivered right first time, on time and in full.

  • Provide expert input to ensure that the most economical / advantageous programming strategy is adopted through collaboration.

  • Support business development activity, particularly through a focus on continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing approach.

  • Possess a good understanding of engineering principles in Control System design.

  • Competent (and confident) in all technical aspects of Control System design and development of special purpose machinery (ideally gained within a similar environment).

  • Experience in delivering solutions to technical problems.

  • Experience of working within a multi–skilled environment (knowledge of electrical and pneumatic components).

  • Ability to provide quality information within deadlines.

  • Proactive interaction and empathy with other functions and projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, confident and capable in client facing role.

  • Strong attention to detail, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel as required.

  • Experience in the software design of industrial automation in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in evaluating technical requirements and providing viable solutions.

  • Interpretation of customer requirements and presentation of design solutions at internal design reviews.

  • Commercially aware of the effective use of resources, scope change and implications of choice.

  • Experience of Integration of robotics into automation solutions.

  • Experience with digital commissioning & simulation.

  • Ability to perform critical linkage between internal departments with a key focus on the technical aspects of a project, ensuring the right approach is maintained through the internal project process, supporting the Project Managers.

Qualifications:

  • HND/Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Software Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Apprentice trained in electrical or mechatronic engineering discipline and post apprenticeship software design experience desirable.

  • Desirable candidates would have prior experience working with ABB robots, possess accredited training certs, and Siemens PLCs.

RMGroup supply and install packaging machinery across the country this role will involve travel and some overnight stays, with the opportunity for some work overseas.

Hours: 40 Hours per week.

Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 (Dependent Upon Experience)
