About us

Mid Wales Manufacturing Group is a not for profit private limited company which is steered by a Board of Directors who are elected from the membership.

Our mission

To be a central driving force in the enhancement of local businesses.

Funded through a combination of membership fees, Public Sector funding and commercial sponsorship.

The group is a full member of the Central Wales Economic Forum and sits on the Board of the Powys Regeneration Group & Powys Regeneration Partnership. The group has a strong record of achievement and performance. Since its founding in 1994 the group has grown from being run by a Board of Directors on a part time basis to employing three highly-experienced staff. 

The Group is credited with founding the award winning Shared Apprentice scheme and launching 'Lean Methodologies' into Mid Wales as well as facilitating the profitable growth of many new and small businesses.

Our Staff & Directors

Ceri Stephens, Group Manager

Ceri has been with MWMG since it founded the Shared Apprenticeship Scheme in 1997.  During that time she has assisted many of our members from sourcing materials to setting up local supply chains.  Today Ceri is responsible for overseeing the Groups' projects and delivering the strategy on behalf of the Board of Directors.

John Brunt, Senior Network Manager

He has many years experience, is a former company director in the textile industry and Manufacturing Advisory Service Business Advisor. He has six years experience of organising and facilitating network meetings and developing supply chains between local manufacturers.   The Mid Wales Manufacturing Group has a long history of developing supply chains between local manufacturers and encouraging co-operation and collaborative working.

Julian Engleheart, Company Secretary

Julian Engleheart (M.A. Oxon) joined MWMG in 2008.  He is also Financial Director of a Shropshire independent school.  Julian is committed to the economic well-being of a region he has loved since childhood, and sees the Group as playing a unique role in this process. 'Imaginative and dedicated leadership, supported by disciplined but unbeaurocratic governance, is enabling the Group to grow in both size and stature.'

Hannah Barrett, Chair

Hannah Barrett (BA Hons) is the H.R Manager at aluminium pressure diecasting company Castalum Ltd. The company is based in Welshpool and employs over 100 people. Hannah has been a member of MWMG Board of Directors since 2007 and has been invited to be an Employer Representative with the Investors in People.

Jon Armitage, Vice Chair

Former Chief Inspector for J Brockhouse Transmission in Aberystwyth and started his company Uniwire (AMS Ltd) in 1982 and remained Chairman/Managing Director until 2003.  Jon is also a former Chairman of Aberystwyth Business Club and has been a Director of Mid Wales Manufacturing Group since 2001.

Des Preece MBE, Director

Systems and Standards Project Manager at Brecon Pharmaceuticals Ltd based in Hay-on-Wye. A member of the original founding steering group of the MWMG with uninterrupted service to the Group since its 1994 inception. A Governor of Coleg Powys and a Director of Careers Wales Mid Glamorgan and Powys. Awarded the MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list of 2007 for “services to business and young people in Mid Wales”

Andrew Bebb, Director

Andrew Bebb is a sales director for WPG LTD a Digital and Litho sheet-fed printing company, who print company brochures and magazines, stationary , flyers, leaflets, corporate print, folders. The company is based in Welshpool and employs 54 people. Andrew has been a member of MWMG since 2001.

Nick Hoskins, Director

Over 30 years Board experience with major organisations in construction, manufacturing, petroleum, environmental engineering, plastics, service industries and defence. In the process managing businesses in UK, Europe and Middle East. Specialisms include Strategic Management, Sales/Marketing, R & D and Production. Recent years spent as a business adviser and mentor to countless SME's assisting them to overcome barriers to growth. A passionate promoter of economic regeneration in Wales. Previous roles include Governorships of a leading University and Europe’s foremost Maritime Academy plus an award panel member with National Lottery. Currently Chair of Mid Wales Housing Association and a Member/Chair of assorted management committees and advisory bodies involved with the delivery of public sector funded projects.
