Using Documentary Letters of Credit, Draft & Bills

The use of Letters of Credit has increased significantly by UK exporters and importers because of the global economic situation, political insecurity in some markets and the withdrawal of credit insurance cover. The Export Credit Guarantee Department has also reduced the threshold for its Letter of Credit gurantee scheme as a mechanism to stimulate exports.

The seminar examines the Letters of Credit process in detail and offers guidance on how to create a workable credit. It will consider the different interests of the exporter, importer and the banks and methods of reducing the risks for all parties. It will also discuss methods of creating and collating accurate documents, the of the draft (Bill of Exchange) and consider options for negotiating of the credit and the current version of the rules that govern letters of credit (UCP600).

Understanding Incoterms & The New Legislation

The Incoterms Rules are an essential business tool for international trade because they define the responsibilities of each party to arrange loading/unloading goods, delivery, import/export clearance and freight contracts. The New Incoterms Rules, implented from 1st January 2011, have been developed to take account of these changes.

This half Day Seminar Will:

  • Consider the general features of the rules will examine each of them in detail.
  • Prinipal differences between old and new rules.
  • Changing obligations of the parties will be highlighted.

The seminar will therefore be particularly relevant to sales, purchasing, shipping, finance, customer service staff, and senior managers from both exporters and importers as well as those from freight forwarders, shipping financial institutions.

Whats it all about?

The correct classification of goods using commodity and tariff codes is fundamental for customs, establishing correct duty rates, origin of goods, intrasat, export control and many other custom procedures. This half day course will consider the terminology used and the structure of the Harmonised System.

The course will look briefly at the international trade procedures related to commodity tariff codings and highlight the necessity and benefits of using the correct codes.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for anyone involved in the importing and exporting of goods and will bring their knowledge up to date with the harmonised systems coding.

This workshop is potentially part-funded by the Welsh Goverment and is subsided as follows:

- 70% funded for companies with 250 or less employees

- 50% funded for companines with 250 or more employees
