Intellectual Property Workshop

MWMG has secured funding under the Glasu Axis 4 Rural Development Programme (RDP) to trial a series of events Utilising video conferencing. This has enabled this workshop to take place simultaneously in Brecon, Newtown and Llandrindod Wells.

• Nick Thomas, Associate Solicitor at JCP Solicitors, will discuss the main intellectual property issues that affect businesses and give an overview of key considerations when entering into business arrangements, including,

• Considering whether the intellectual property rights you have licensed to a third party to produce your products are properly protected

• Whether you are going to have to provide technical assistance to the other party

• How you might monitor the use of your intellectual property to ensure they are not infringing your rights and the terms of their licence

• What rights you want as a manufacturer of other companies’ products, and whether there  should be restrictions on the product owner engaging other manufacturers

• In addition to the main provisions to include in your contracts Nick will also consider the enforcement of intellectual property rights where third parties are infringing your rights.

• David Woodridge, Intellectual Property Manager for the Welsh Government’s Business Innovation Programme will provide an introductory overview of intellectual property rights.

• Show you how to search the public databases of registered intellectual property IP database and summarise the support for Research and Development available to Welsh Companies.
